LEGOs in Action: Adventures in Science and Engineering (and maybe some Math and Art)
Students will learn some basic concepts in physics and engineering by building with everyone’s favorite bricks: LEGO! We will explore simple structures such as bridges and towers, and simple machines like pulleys and levers. Let’s see who can build the best catapult and the fastest car! Build a tall tower and see if it can withstand an earthquake! Students will also learn some basics of engineering design, working individually and together to solve challenges.

Karate
In this class the student will learning proper self-defense methods along with socially responsible behaviors. Okinawan karate specializes in developing focus, discipline and confidence in the student, teaching martial arts and skills that will last a lifetime.

Comic Book/Manga Drawing
Are you interested in learning the fundamentals of cartooning and comic/manga books? Local comic book artist Kamron Reynolds will introduce you to the world of comics. Learn how to draw your own characters, faces, backgrounds, lettering, and much more. The key to creating is getting started. Students may take this course multiple times. Please bring paper and pencil to class.

Public Speaking
Students will be introduced to public speaking in a fun and interactive class where we will plan and create presentations and learn to speak confidently in front of an audience. We will practice communicating messages clearly and have discussions around our speeches. We will also do activities like show and tell, staring contests (for eye contact fun) improv, and debate. Classes may require some minimal research homework to bring in.

The Art of Yoga and our Bodies
This class offers a great way for parents and kids to connect on the mat together. Being playfuland silly is a great way to help the body release tension and come back to a happy state ofmind. Thousands of years ago, ancient yogis lived in the forests, mountains and caves of India.They saw how animals and nature live in perfect harmony. The Yogis imitated movements andcreated special techniques to help us reconnect to ourselves, nature, and other beings.Students will learn fun and easy poses that imitate their favorite animals, like dogs, cats, cows,ducks, and more. This class will be a mixture of learning poses with stories, imaginarycharacters, animals, mantras and uplifting music. Through the course of this yoga class, thestudents will learn the importance of self confidence and expression, while also building strengthand flexibility throughout their bodies.

Wildlife Art
Calling all wildlife lovers who want to have a creative and fun adventure! In this artclass, students will learn how to create unique artwork that is inspired by wildlifeand enjoy bringing mammals, reptiles, amphibians, marine life and insects to life using both 2Dand 3D mediums to include drawing, collaging, sculpting, painting, and mixed media. We will also learn some fun cool facts about the species along the way.

Abracadabra! Magic Tricks for Beginners
Everyone loves a magic show! In this class, students will learn a wide variety of awesome magic tricks that they can then perform for family and friends. Each week we’ll go over and practice multiple new tricks, so by the end of the course everyone has more than enough tricks in their magic hats to perform a whole magic show! Most tricks can also be done with common household items, though students may also get to try a few special props for some very unique illusions. If you have a young magician in your home, this is the perfect place for them to improve their skills!

Unfamous American History
They say history is written by the victors. But, did you know that many of those names have been lost to time! There are so many really cool people who did some really interesting things that we just don’t hear too much about because for whatever reason they have become unfamous!In this class we will use our research and detective skills to seek out facts on these people and bring those facts to class to share.
Each week we will research one person who you may or may not have ever heard about before. At home you will seek out interesting facts and write them down and bring them to class where we will take turns sharing (student’s read aloud their found facts) to the entire class. The tricky part is to dig deep to find rare facts that your classmates will not have discovered themselves with a simple google search. (pro tip: google, Alexa, and Siri are not always accurate!) and Grandparents are valuable resources and are totally quotable living historians!
This class does have an at home work component each week that shouldn’t take too much time but must be done at home. The in class portion of this class will be for discussion, sharing, and debating the facts we find.

Crafts for Kids
Do you like to make fun stuff? Are you ready to try new things and use our fine motor skills with art and crafting supplies and step up your abilities? In this class we will use standard crafting supplies like scissors, glue, paper, fabric, thread, and kitchen supplies to craft a whole new list of items from previous classes! I’m talking about Minecraft paper swords, salt dough snakes, curled paper flowers, and more! Each class will introduce a new project to give you a chance to try new things and get creative! This class is intended to be a relaxing space of creativity so if you need some time to finish a project we will do follow up work the following class. No need to rush, we have 14 weeks/hours to get our work done, each person’s own skill level and abilities.

Amazing Animals of the World: Habitat Edition
Animals can be found virtually everywhere on our planet, from the highest mountain tops to the deepest parts of the ocean, the hottest desert to the coldest tundra, and the most remote rainforests to the middle of massive cities. In this class, we’ll explore many of our world’s amazing habitats, learning what makes them special, and discover the extraordinary creatures that call them home. Students will learn about animal adaptations, taxonomy (animal classification), and more, along with plenty of facts. Everyone will even be making their own binder journal to help them remember what they learned!

Spy School
Let’s put our spy skills to the test! Spies will love this super fun class filled with secret agent games and activities. Students will learn how to write in secret code, set up lazers and maneuver through them, and crack codes using our problem solving skills. We’ll make invisible ink for our hidden messages and find out who the bad guys are by solving mysteries.

The Art of Yoga and our Bodies
This class is designed to help facilitate an inward journey as well as learn poses and stretches that will help the mind and body everyday. As children get older, their bodies change and grow.This class will teach foundational poses that help with blood flow, circulation, flexibility, strength,and improving coordination. This class will help us understand more about what our bodies need, and how to listen to it. We will learn how to respect our bodies, as well as others around us. Yoga is a way to exercise our body and mind at the same time, it teaches us how to be more mindful of ourselves and other beings. When the mind, body and spirit are more aligned, it can start to create more positive actions and emotions in our everyday lives. Students will learn breathing techniques and yoga poses that can be used everyday to realign, reconnect and detox. They will learn about the importance of connections with others by learning partner and group poses. By taking what we learn on the mat and implementing it in our everyday lives, we will notice a change of perspective …in a great way.

Join Maurice Archer as he teaches America’s popular and now Olympic event Break Dance! Students build self confidence, listening skills and self awareness. Look To The Stars: Sci-fi Crafts
Bring your geeky crafty skills to class and let’s make outer space themed crafts and projects. We will use an array of materials and supplies to make some really fun stuff. We will dabble with supplies like paper, fabrics, glues, and recycled objects to get our creative science fiction going! Like Star Wars? This class has got you covered! We will make some droid paper crafts, an erupting death star, and some galaxy slime! There will be more than just that going on! Join us when we enter the creative galaxy and craft zone!

Robot Builders Extravaganza
Do you love building with LEGO? Would you like to learn how to program a robot? Using LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT kits, follow instructions to build a robot or vehicle of your choice. Build a ball shooter, a forklift, or a crocodile! Don’t be scared if you don’t want to program, all the code is written for you. For older students, design and build your own!

Design a Board Game – A Create To Learn Steam Program
Students will be designing their own games! We will work in teams to develop unique game objectives, rules, game play, and currencies. Students will learn to communicate complex systems while building their own creative and metacognitive skills. We will work on collaboration and implementation and then play our games! Students might learn how to challenge the game’s strategy and mechanics after playing, or find ways to make a game work better to be more or less challenging. We are using the creatED steam program, so get ready to work with molding model magic clay and fun art supplies for our projects.

The Ancient World: Dinosaurs and other Prehistoric Life
Dinosaurs have always been popular, appearing in everything from books, movies, games, etc. In this class, we’ll go beyond Hollywood and learn about the real creatures that lived on our planet millions of years ago. Everything from famous dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops to lesser-known megafauna like Andrewsarchus and Indricotherium will be explored. We’ll even talk about some incredible recent discoveries, like the surprising number of dinosaurs that had feathers and how we can actually tell what colors some dinosaurs were! Students will also learn how the planet we call home has changed over time, and how the dominant groups of life changed from one period to the next as a result.

Fiber Arts Sampler
In this class we will use our time to create fun and unique projects that fall into 4 areas of fiber arts. 4 weeks knitting. 4 weeks crochet. 3 weeks embroidery. 3 weeks cross stitch. Each block of classes we will concentrate on one specific project and work to learn that skill to complete a beginner project.
In knitting we will learn to cast on and use the knit and purl stitches to make a simple scarf. In crochet we will learn to make a chain and single crochet a square, make a worry worm, and an amigurumi bumble bee plushie. In Embroidery we will learn the 10 basic stitches of hand embroidery to make a cloth sampler. In Cross Stitch we will use Adia cloth, needle and thread to create a simple image to frame.
This is a class to challenge yourself by learning new skills but in a relaxed and patient environment. Many supplies will be provided but a few items will need to be brought to class. An emailed list will be sent to parents. ex: First week students will need to bring knitting needles. We will have time in class to work on projects but some at home time may be needed to get our projects completed. This is a beginners class so that time should be very minimal.
